I’m way past due for an update, so here we go..
I’ve toured the Houses of Parliament/Palace of Westminster, Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace at this point.. and all were exactly what I expected them to be: ridiculously opulent and absolutely gorgeous. They had some interesting exhibits in all of those places and I made sure to take pictures whenever I could. We went to the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace as well, which wasn’t that great.. I think it would’ve been more fun if I wasn’t so vertically challenged. We got there pretty early and I still couldn’t get close enough to see much. The picture above is courtesy of Nick, who is tall enough to actually see something above a crowd of ruthless and borderline violent (I was elbowed in the throat, no joke) tourists eager to capture 67 pictures of the same view from every possible angle.

I’ve decided that Queen Victoria is my favorite monarch of all time.. she and Prince Albert genuinely loved each other and her reign was such a kickass time for Britain. I thought it was so cool that I was able to actually sit in her bedroom at Kensington Palace.. most of it’s roped off, of course, but you can sit on the window sill and look at her furniture and old dolls and imagine what she was thinking when she sat in that exact spot staring out the window.. I’m such a nerd, but this is how I think and it was so awesome.
I’m really liking the people I’ve met here. We’ve had some great nights out and a few of us have taken turns making dinner for each other. I’m learning how to cook more than just pasta, finally.. I made breaded chicken cutlets with melted mozzarella and side salads with a fabulous (i.e. cheap) cabernet the other night.
On Sunday I went on a daytrip to Brighton, this adorable coastal city, and had a great time (see pictures).
This weekend I’m planning on checking out Fabric (supposedly one of the best clubs in the UK) with a big group of people on Friday and hitting up Portobello Market in Notting Hill on Saturday. Sunday afternoon I’m leaving for Brussels on the Eurostar with my IR class, which I’m really looking forward to.
I’ll try to keep up with this so I don’t go another week without an update..
