BRIGHTON
September 13
Early Sunday morning I left for a day in the coastal city of Brighton, England with a big group of kids from the BU program. It took about an hour and a half to get there by bus and I slept practically the entire time. It’s a pretty cool city- there are tons of shops, a pier, the Royal Pavilion (an old palace that was mostly used as a summer home for the monarchy and supposed to look like something out of India with its architecture) and they had a food festival going on.
After taking a tour of the Royal Pavilion, we spent some time exploring the lanes (this area of town with a ton of old vintage shops and other stores). This one store we went into was pretty cool- it was basically like a huge garage sale with tons of old, random stuff. You could buy peoples’ old family photographs for £.50, which I thought was kinda creepy, but I still looked through all of them- I had some fun wondering about where the people were from and what kind of lives they led. Some of the pictures were dated from the 1930s and 40s- my absolute favorite period of history to study- so of course I was geeking out.
We checked out the food festival for awhile as well and I had a pretty good burger with some random spice that I liked.. I’m forgetting exactly what it was now, but it was tasty. Then we went over to the beach/pier area and played like kids- I convinced a few people (including a borderline terrified Alex Fish) to get on this crazy huge flips-you-upside-down-while-spinning ride with me- and it was awesome. We played some games in the arcade and had some awesome doughnuts and ice cream too- it was basically an excuse to be 12 again and I loved it.
